Not Quite a Flying Car

This Week’s Hints to help you along:

  • Created in tough times by one of the world’s leading design firms.
  • Flight tested extensively but never meant for production.
  • A product of 1945, designed during the last months of World War II.
  • The design pioneered the swept wings of some of the first fighter jets.
  • A true canard configuration, a plan form later adopted by Burt Rutan.

It is a Russian experimental aircraft used mainly for VIP transportation, not widely manufactured.
Have forgotten the designers name and type number.

    Ah… it’s Russian!!
And you won’t believe it, but it is a MiG….
The designation was MiG-8 and it was named ‘Utka’, which is Russian for “Duck”.

MiG 8 Utka(duck). Built as a test bed for the triangular canard, it became a company hack that the pilots enjoyed flying.
