The picture shows the first built design of Japanese Sanji Narahara, often identified as the Narahara No.1 from 1910. The machine was very distinctive with its staggered wings. The machine was not able to ‘fly’, only hopping to a height of 30 cm was possible. Probably the 25 hp Anzani engine fitted was too weak.

Undaunted, Narahara continued his efforts with the No.2 – No.4 machines, which all flew quite well.
